The library is pleased to announce that we are now offering our patrons access to Kanopy, a streaming service that offers a wide variety of great movies, documentaries, and TV shows from all over the world.

You’ll find many of the most-buzzed about and critically-acclaimed art-house hits like “Faces Places”, “Hunt for the Wilderpeople”, “Loving Vincent”, “We Need to Talk About Kevin”, “Donnie Darko”, “The Hero”, “Kumiko, the Treasure Hunter”, and “I Am Not Your Negro”, along with international sensations like “Force Majeure”, “Oldboy”, “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”, “Holy Motors”, “White God”, and “Let the Right One In”. Perhaps best of all for cinéastes is access to the renowned Criterion Collection of movies, featuring some of the most highly-regarded and important films ever made by masters of cinema like Alfred Hitchcock, Wes Anderson, Robert Altman, Ingmar Bergman, Akira Kurosawa, Jean-Luc Godard, Federico Fellini, François Truffaut, and Michelangelo Antonioni.

In addition Kanopy offers a massive selection of educational videos about art, business, health, science, and more, including hundreds of lessons from The Great Courses. They also have a new Kids section featuring animated children’s classics, award-winning movies like “A Cat in Paris” and “The Secret of Kells”, and popular PBS shows like “Dinosaur Train” and “Arthur”.

To get started head to Kanopy either via our website by clicking on “Borrow” in the menu bar near the top of the screen and then selecting “eBooks & Streaming”. From there, scroll down to “Video”, expand the menu using the “+” on the right, and then click on “Kanopy”. Alternatively, you can head straight to Kanopy at this address: https://avalon.kanopy.com/. Once there just create a free account by entering your preferred email address and creating a password. You will then be asked to verify your email and enter your library card number, and that’s it!

Patrons are allowed to watch 10 videos a month, which resets at the 1st of each month. You will have 3 days to watch the video from when you borrow it, and can do so using their apps for iOS and Apple TV, Android, Roku, and Amazon Fire Tablet, or via Chromecast.

So check it out when you get a chance, and maybe put together your own film festival!
