Kids, Teens, or Adults: Sign Up For Summer Reading Today!

This year we are excited to announce that we are hosting not 1, but 3 Summer Reading Programs! In addition to our usual program for kids, we are also offering one for teens and one for adults, so everyone can get in on the fun!

The Kids program lets children ages 0-12 pick one toy out of our treasure chest each week that they read at least 1 book! They simply bring in their log to get it initialed and then they have their choice of prize! Being read to counts as reading, which means even your littlest “readers” can participate. We will also have fun events all Summer long, Amazon gift cards for the top readers in each age group (0-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12), and an ice cream social to finish off the program!

We are happy to be offering a Teen Summer Reading Program this Summer as well, along with several teen-oriented programs and workshops. The program works the same way as the Kids program, but instead of toys each week readers can pick from a selection of free books. Likewise, at the end of the year, the top readers in 2 age groups (13-15 & 16-17) will be awarded an Amazon gift card, and be invited to an ice cream social.

Lastly, we are also offering an Adult Summer Reading Program for the first time as well. This one works a little differently, as each participant will receive a Book Bingo card, which they need to fill out as they read over the Summer. The readers who do the best on the card will win Amazon gift cards or other great prizes!

You can sign up for all of these programs today at the Avalon Free Public Library or the Avalon History Center. When you sign up, you will get a bag full of fun freebies along with everything you need to get started. All reading logs and Book Bingo cards need to be turned in by August 10 to be eligible for prizes. And of course we hope all participants in all 3 programs can join us for our Summer Reading Sundae Social with Avalon’s own Sundae Best on Friday, August 17 at 12pm at the library! So sign up today, and happy reading!
