Hot Tracks: 8/2/24

Happy Friday! Here’s my weekly guide to the new (to me) songs I found the most interesting this week. I was off last week, so this time will feature 2 weeks worth of new music!

Note: Some songs and videos may contain content that listeners / viewers could find objectionable.

As she continues to release remixes of her latest album Brat that feature guest appearances by a variety of pop acts, Charli XCX now enlists Billie Eilish on the fun, techno-heavy “Guess”.

Ella Eyre kicks off August with a pop jam that’s perfect for those steamy late Summer days.

Something Corporate and Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness join forces to produce this catchy rock tune.

Halsey uses a Britney Spears chorus on this lovely and deeply personal pop jam.

Livingston is wooing the arena rock fans that love Imagine Dragons, and he deserves to succeed.

Wes Nelson and Billen Ted team up for this catchy d&b pop tune.

Indian hip-hop act Hanumankind is breaking big in the US on the strength of this edgy and infectious tune.

Indie dance act Devin is poised for big things based on this super current track.

Lovequest (made up of Jake Shears and Shadow Child) debut with a throwback house jam that would work just as well on the dancefloor as the Musik Express.

Disco house tunes live or die on the sample selected to drive the track, and Sgt Slick found a winner on this one.

Austrian duo Klangkarussell enlist GIVVEN to help them add just the right tinge of sadness to this haunting dance anthem. (And petrichor is one of my favorite things in the world, so….).

Like a slightly weirder version of Depeche Mode or early 00’s KMFDM.

Is glam-rock due for a comeback? Who can say, but if Palaye Royale bring it back I won’t be mad about it.

A surprisingly successful melding of harder edged techno and relaxing new age elements by up and coming act Bryce Alakai.

The hauntingly minimalist house remake of Cher’s “Believe” we never knew we needed.

The latest from ROYA uses chopped up vocal effects to stand out.

NYC indie act Jiwon deserves a wide audience based on this intriguing alt-pop song.

As does the equally intriguing Shelailai.

Clever and catchy, this is the kind of country jam we need more of.

Mikayla Geier is back to treat us with another of her signature “orchestral bops.”

R&b / pop vocalist Lady Blackbird returns with the soul-influenced stunner “Let Not (Your Heart Be Troubled)”.

Blissfully chilled alt-rock by Foster the People.

To mark the 10th anniversary of the release of his hit album In the Lonely Hour, Sam Smith teams up with Alica Keys for a new version of “I’m Not the Only One” that reminds us why we fell in love with him in the first place.

Zeauxi teams up with Galimatias for this lovely, jazz-inflected chillout jam.

A lovely, piano-driven ballad written and produced for the new M. Night Shyamalan thriller by his daughter.
