The Academy Awards are an imperfect gauge of what truly constitutes the best films released across any given calendar year, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t worth paying attention to. Sure, whether a movie or a performance wins or loses can sometimes come down to who ran the better campaign, but for the most part, the nominees tend to represent at least some of the films that mattered the most in their given year. Sometimes that’s because they’re genuinely great, other times it’s because they were highly successful, and still others it’s because they speak to some part of the culture at the time of their release. So rather than quibble over whether any one motion picture was truly the “best”, use this list as a guide to help you journey through some of the movies that mattered in 2025 and maybe as a way to help you discover new genres, directors, actors, and actresses that you might not have otherwise.
Below is our list of all of this year’s Oscar nominees, including the shorts, along with links to where you can watch them (or in the case of the music where you can hear it), prioritizing access through the library when available, followed by subscription or free streaming, followed by online rental services. We will be keeping this list updated regularly so make sure to check back for the latest info on any movies that aren’t yet available to watch at home.
NOTE: Release dates are subject to change. Some of the movies are not yet out on DVD or Blu-ray, but will be coming soon, so we have provided the link to our catalog for these titles so that you can get yourself on the hold list in advance.
Winners are marked with a green star.
