November Weekly Wow Books

The Weekly Wow List: 10/31/25

Happy Friday everyone! We’re currently experiencing perfect weather to curl up with a good book, so we’ve got 5 reading suggestions from our staff for your enjoyment!

What Stalks the Deep by T. Kingfisher

This is the third novella in the Sworn Soldier series by T. Kingfisher. Alex Easton sails across the ocean and rides by train to a West Virginia mine that has mysteriously been shut down twice and is now responsible for a dramatic disappearance. The series is horror through the eyes of a logical person, and while I don’t usually enjoy horror I’ve loved all three novellas! – Mary Ecklund

Rome, Kentucky series by Sarah Adams

For anyone who loves a good small-town romance with plenty of wit. Each book takes you back to the cozy town of Rome, Kentucky, where memorable characters, family ties, and second chances make for a perfect escape. Adams’ writing is warm and funny. She has created an entire world that you can’t help but want to visit, rooting for every couple along the way.

If you’re new to the series, start with When in Rome, where a pop star hides out in a small town and meets a baker who turns her world upside down. It’s a charming, feel-good read. For established readers of the story – good news! Adams is back at the end of the year with the fourth book – In Your Dreams, which features James and Madison’s story. – Erin Brown

Everyone Is Lying to You by Jo Piazza

Jo Piazza came to Avalon this summer and gave a superb talk! Her high energy and positivity during the talk showed through in Everyone Is Lying to You. It’s a commentary on social media influencers, mental health, and friendship. And a fast moving mystery! I listened to it on a road trip and it made the drive fly by. – ME

Alchemy of Secrets by Stephanie Garber

A woman determined to discover if urban legends are real, stumbles upon one called the Watch Man.  The Watch Man isn’t just any legend – he will supposedly tell you when you will die.  When she receives the message that she will die tomorrow at midnight unless she can find an object called the Alchemical Heart, the race is on to follow the clues, find the heart, and change her fate. – Kara Buono

Coach by Jason Reynolds

Coach is a prequel to Reynolds’s Track series, which can be found in the kids’ fiction section. While the Track series follows four different kids on a track team, Coach shows you the childhood of their beloved coach. Back to the Future is freshly out on VHS, the Air Jordan II’s just came out, and car phones are still an amazing concept. This title brings you back in time and shows you how Coach becomes the man you know from the series. All of the books in Track are enjoyable, for all ages! I highly recommend reading/listening to them with your kids/grandkids, or on your own! – ME
