Remembering Robert Penrose, Avalon Historian

Robert Litz Penrose, Sr., has contributed meaningfully to the documentation of the history of Avalon through his authorship of Avalon on the Seven-Mile Beach, a trove of deeply researched information, especially regarding Avalon’s early history and origins.

Great Programs Are Available at the Library All Year Long!

Summer has ended, which means the days are getting shorter, the weather is getting colder, and the traffic is getting much, much lighter. But that doesn’t mean there’s nothing to do. To the contrary, in addition to our special events, the library has a host of fun programming that runs all year long.

Take a Virtual Tour of the Old 6th St. House

As many of you may already know, one of the town’s oldest houses was recently taken apart and hauled off the island. We were fortunate enough to get a look inside this historic home at 254 6th St. before it was disassembled, and take some video to share with all of you.

New Events & Exhibits Planned for 2018 at the Avalon History Center!

The Avalon History Center is excited to announce a number of new exhibits and events planned for the coming year! With events ranging from lectures on the history of the town itself, to new exhibits focusing on many of people’s favorite parts of Avalon life, 2018 at the History Center promises to be “cooler by a mile.”

Avalon Library Awarded 5 Stars for 10th Consecutive Time

For the 10th consecutive time, the Avalon Free Public Library has received the maximum 5-star rating as ranked by the Library Journal’s Index of Public Library Service.
