Borough of Avalon’s 125th Anniversary Celebration and Mayors Cup Bocce Tournament
Join us at 9:30am for a ceremony commemorating the founding of the Borough of Avalon 125 years ago! Then, starting at 10am, watch as local mayors battle for the coveted prize in the Mayors Cup Bocce Tournament, hosted by the Avalon Recreation Department. Between games, stop in the Avalon History Center to view an exhibit on the 125th Anniversary of Avalon and two local churches. Lunch is served! Italian favorites from Circle Pizza, sponsored by 7MBCA and the Avalon Chamber. And, enjoy live music from “Loud n Klear,” sponsored by the Avalon Free Public Library. Great Decisions Foreign Policy
Conrad Weiler, Associate Professor Emeritus of Political Science at Temple University, will moderate. Sessions are being held for eight weeks through May 3. Great Decisions is America’s largest discussion program on world affairs. The program model involves reading the Great Decisions Briefing Book, watching the DVD and meeting in a Discussion Group to discuss the most critical global issues facing America today. Topics for Great Decisions 2017 include: The Future of Europe: Coping with Crisis; Trade, Jobs and Politics; Conflict in the South China Sea; Saudi Arabia in Transition; U.S. Foreign Policy and Petroleum; Latin America’s Political Pendulum; Prospects for Afghanistan and Pakistan; and Nuclear Security: The Enduring Challenge of Nuclear Weapons.
