3 Apps for Working Out Your Brain

Fitness is a major part of many people’s lives. Working out your body is easy! Just go to the gym or go for a run around the block. If you’re sweating by the end of it, you know you did a good job. It’s different though if you’re trying to work out your brain. With advances in technology, apps are being produced to help with this problem. We put together a list of three solid apps you can download to your smartphone or tablet that will help you break a mental sweat!

1.) Duolingo

Duolingo is an application which utilizes the science of gamification to teach its users new languages! Basically, the user plays a series of mini games which break down the language into smaller and more manageable (comprehensible) parts. Each language course is broken down into multiple levels ranging from the basics to the most advanced aspects. Duolingo boasts a tremendous user interface (one of the best apps I’ve ever used) as well as an uptempo experience. The best part? You get all of this (including great analytics about your performance) completely free! Visit the Duolingo website for more information!

2.) Elevate

Elevate is a personal trainer for your brain. Using similar tactics to Duolingo, the user plays mini games to help improve brain function. These functions include Writing, Speaking, Reading, Listening, and Math. Once you complete a quick test, the app develops a plan specifically for you. You can download the app for free and get most of the functions but there is a premium version which has more brain games. This app was Apple’s 2014 App of the Year! 3.) TED

Chances are, you’ve probably heard of TED or have even seen a TED Talk on the internet somewhere. TED is an organization who bring innovators together to talk about cutting edge ideas and other important topics. The TED website and app are full of talks which will definitely get your brain working! Most of the videos are between 10-20 minutes long so pull up a chair, grab a snack, and enjoy listening to some of the most innovative minds talk about the advancements in their particular fields! For more information on TED, visit their website!
