In an era when the events we see playing out on the news all too frequently resemble a Borat bit (Four Seasons Landscaping anyone?), it was unlikely for an actual sequel to the hit 2006 movie to be able to have quite the same effect as the original, and so of course it doesn’t. The plot, such as it is, sees him being sent back to the United States to deliver a gift to President Trump in an effort to redeem the nation’s image after he embarassed it so badly with his previous movie. When that plan goes awry, he improvises and decides to gift his daughter Tutar instead, who had stowed away on the journey with him. The antics are frequently clever, and he still manages to effectively reveal some of the worst parts of our society in the process, but it doesn’t feel like he’s showing us anything we didn’t already know. Still, fans of the original will find plenty to laugh at here, and Maria Bakalova is excellent as his daughter, effectively stealing every scene she is in. ★★★★ – Sean Farrell
