Awards Season Movie Review: Palm Springs

palm springsNyles (Andy Samberg) has been stuck in a time loop reliving the same day, and attending the same wedding, over and over again. During one of these loops, he saves the bride’s black-sheep sister Sarah (Cristin Milioti) from delivering an embarrassing speech by delivering an incredible one of his own, which leads to the 2 of them getting to know each other, heading off to be alone and Sarah getting trapped in the same time loop. Nyles had long since given up on trying to escape his situation, but he goes along with Sarah’s attempts and the 2 grow gradually closer. Despite the odd premise, there are still some of the typical rom-com tropes, but the excellent cast helps to elevate the story beyond them. With several laugh-out-loud moments, a good dash of indie-film weirdness, and a lot of heart this is the sort of movie that can really sneak up on you. ★★★★ – Sean Farrell
