A pair of roadway maintenance projects will kick off soon in Cape May County. The construction will lead to lane closures and traffic shifts in both directions on the affected roads and is needed for concrete repairs and drainage inlet replacement. Work is scheduled to take place between the hours of 9am and 3pm weekdays through at least September, at which time milling and paving will begin that will occur overnight between 8pm and 6am.

The work will begin on Route 9 soon, taking place between Birch Drive and Goshen-Swainton Road / County Road 646, and also on Route 47 between mile post 18.3 and mile post 20. The New Jersey Department of Transportation advises motorists to, “slow down, use caution, and expect delays when driving through [a] work zone.” It is likely that these projects will cause delays for visitors traveling to or from Avalon.

The work is part of a $7.3 million state funded project that will occur throughout various locations in Cape May, Cumberland, and Atlantic counties that should be completed by Spring 2025. Exact timing may change due to weather or other factors. The most up-to-date information can be found at www.511nj.org.
