[UPDATE 10/11/25 @ 12:58PM] The Avalon Free Public Library and Avalon History Center will both be closed all day on Sunday the 12th and Monday the 13th of October due to the threat of flooding. All events scheduled at either facility during those days have been cancelled. Regular hours are expected to resume on Tuesday the 14th.
[UPDATE 10/11/25 @ 9:46AM] A Coastal Flood Warning has been issued for our area for Sunday morning through Monday evening, 10/12 – 10/13. This means that moderate to major tidal flooding is expected over those two days. High tides in Avalon will occur on Sunday at 12:24am and 12:50pm and on Monday at 1:34am and 2:01pm. During and around those times it is strongly suggested that residents and visitors move their cars from flood prone areas to higher ground. You can scroll down to the original portion of this post to see the flooding zones map produced by the borough to help you make a decision. Strong winds and heavy rains are also forecast, which could lead to power outages and additional flooding. Loose objects should be tied down or taken inside where possible.
[UPDATE 10/10/25 @ 11AM] The potentially significant coastal storm forecast to impact our area on Sunday and into Monday is still expected. Due to the system possibly stalling out off our coast, the flood risk has increased and a Coastal Flood Watch has been issued for our area. Strong winds and heavy rains also remain a possibility.

There is a potentially “significant coastal storm” forecast for Avalon and Cape May County on October 12th and 13th, according to the National Weather Service. As of Thursday morning, it is still too soon to know with certainty what the impacts will be, but residents and visitors should be aware of what’s possible and be prepared to take precautions if necessary. With the weather on Saturday, October 11th calling only for clouds and breezy conditions, the Avalon Arts & Seafood Festival is expected to still take place as planned.

The NWS currently says there is a 40-60% chance of wind gusts over 55mph along the Atlantic coast on Sunday and Monday, as well as a greater than 70% chance of rainfall in excess of 2 inches, and possible coastal flooding. It is important to note however that a shift in the track of the storm could bring all of these numbers down. A Coastal Flood Watch has been issued for our area the runs from the morning of the 12th (Sunday) through the evening of the 13th (Monday). During that time period it is advised that anyone who lives in a part of town that is prone to flooding should consider moving their vehicle(s) to a part of town that usually remains dry. Official Avalon meteorologist Joe Martucci will be releasing an Avalon-specific forecast video on the borough’s Facebook page on Friday with an updated version to follow on Sunday.
