AtlanticCare EMS and the Red Cross will be holding a blood drive in the cafeteria of the Avalon Elementary School on Wednesday, June 18 from 2pm to 7pm as part of the Red Cross’ “Camp Do Good” initiative.
All blood types are needed, but eligible type O, B- or A- donors are asked to consider giving a Power Red donation, during which red blood cells are separated from the other components of the blood like plasma and platelets which are returned to the donor. According to the Red Cross’ website, red blood cells are the most used part of the blood and are necessary for nearly all types of patients receiving a transfusion, meaning that your donation could have twice as much impact as a standard donation.
If you are interested in making either kind of donation, you can set up an appointment by calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or going online. You can also streamline the experience by taking care of your pre-donation reading and health history questions by visiting RedCrossBlood.org/RapidPass on the day of your appointment.
As a way of saying thank you, everyone who donates blood in the month of June will receive a $15 Amazon gift card via email and will be entered for a chance to win a $7,000 gift card.
