The National Weather Service is cautioning Cape May County residents to be alert for possible severe weather this afternoon. A warm front ahead of a cold front could make its way into our area, and if it does it could trigger thunderstorms with a wave of rain that is expected later today. Additionally, Avalon residents can expect winds of 15 to 25 mph with some higher gusts and possible coastal flooding. Rainfall amounts of .25″ to .5″ are possible on top of the already saturated ground. The most likely threats forecast for today are from wind and flooding, with possible excessive rain, lighting, and severe thunderstorms and only a minor chance of hail or tornadic activity.
