In Avalon and throughout New Jersey yesterday, voters headed to the polls for this year’s primary elections to determine who will be on the ballot this November. The results have (mostly) been tabulated and we have them for you here.
In the Presidential race on the Republican side, Donald Trump was running unopposed and has won our state’s vote for the nomination. Meanwhile, on the Democratic side, Joe Biden won with a little over 88% of the vote and 94% of precincts reporting as of 9am on June 9th.
Andy Kim won the Democratic Primary for Senate, taking 75% of the vote and easily beating out competitors Patricia Campos-Medina and Lawrence Hamm. For the Republican ticket, Cape May developer Curtis Bashaw has clinched the nomination with more than 45% of the vote and 94% of precincts reporting. Christine Serrano Glassner came in second with 38.5% and enough votes to have propelled her to the lead in a handful of northern counties.
In this year’s house race, Jeff Van Drew was running unopposed for the Republican nomination and so handily won that race. With 93% of the vote counted, the Democratic nomination is still too close to call. As of 9am on June 9th, Joe Salerno has 38% to Tim Alexander’s 36.8%. Carolyn Rush has garnered 21.8% for a 3rd place finish. The majority of the outstanding votes are from Atlantic and Cumberland Counties, both of which are leaning towards Alexander at this time, while Cape May County has gone for Salerno.
A large part of the delay in Atlantic County is due to over 1,900 mail-in ballots being unsealed prematurely. The local election board could not decide on how to handle this error and the ultimate decision on how to proceed resting with Superior Court Judge Michael J. Blee.
Updated with the latest numbers and information about the delay for the final results of the Democratic House nomination on 6/9/24.
