Bay Park Marina Construction to Begin

Fred M. Schiavone Construction, Inc. is set to begin construction on the Bay Park Marina rehabilitation project any day now. Phase One of two must be complete on or before May 21, 2025 and represents the largest portion of the project. It will involve improving the Northern portion of the marina, including the boat ramp. Construction will take place Monday through Friday, with breaks for the weekends. No work will occur from May 22, 2025 through at least September 1, 2025 to avoid disruption to the Summer season.

The contractor pledged to keep the Fall 2024 boating season and the Summer 2025 kayak season open as long as possible, with the aim of providing ample notice to boat slip holders to remove their vessels ahead of the December 1, 2024 deadline. A chain-link fence will surround the area for safety during construction and piling installation will be handled via vibration instead of the more disruptive pile-driving method. In addition to the new boat ramp, there will be a new bulkhead, handicapped-accessible kayak launch, dockmaster building, piers, gazebo, benches, sidewalk, parking lot, and turtle retention barrier. The Borough of Avalon hopes to receive a federal grant that would allow for the creation of a “living shoreline nature-based resiliency” feature on the Southern side of the area.

[UPDATE 11/9/2024]: The contractor expects to begin bringing equipment to the marina on November 4. A temporary fence will be installed to keep residents away from danger but will still allow boat owners to keep their boats in the marina until the end of the normal season on December 1, after which time the fence will be extended to prohibit access to the boat ramp as well.
