Any day from October 21st through the 25th, Avalon residents may spy an airplane “buzzing” the beachfront between 8th and 80th Streets. It’s nothing to worry about, as it will simply be dropping non-toxic, pellet-form fertilizer to ensure the survival of our town’s dune grasses. Without it, the grass would likely not make it until next season, so a Fall application will be commenced in accordance with United States Department of Agriculture recommendations.
The plane will only be present for one of those potential days depending on which has the most favorable weather conditions. It should first appear at about 7am and will then fly over the dunes 5 times in approximately 20-30 minute intervals. The entire process should be over in about 2 1/2 hours.
[UPDATE 10/21/24, 11:50am]: It has been announced that the plane will be flying over Avalon on Tuesday, October 22nd.
