Four beach paths in Avalon have been closed by the Department of Public Works. Located at 10th, 11th, 14th, and 15th Streets, these paths will remain off limits until the planned sand back passing project is completed. The 12th and 13th Street paths remain open at this time.
While the sand back passing project was expected to be completed by May, emergency repairs to the small bridge on Avalon Boulevard are required by the County, which is preventing the heavy equipment needed from being brought into town. Those repairs should be finished by Memorial Day at which time the beach project can begin.
To avoid inconveniencing visitors and residents who want to enjoy the beach, work will only be conducted overnight, finishing daily by 8am. It is anticipated that all of these paths will be restored and accessible for most of the Summer season. In the meantime, the walking path behind the dunes remains open to enable access to the nearest usable paths.
