The Weekly Wow List: 11/7/25

Die My Love

This psychological domestic drama from acclaimed director Lynne Ramsay looks like it might be a little bit too emotionally intense for some viewers, but stars Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson are both receiving so much acclaim for their performances that each are considered strong contenders for Academy Award nominations this Winter. A tale of a marriage in trouble that is worth seeking out for adventurous moviegoers. – Sean Farrell

Hotel Costiera

Looking for something new to watch that feels like a mini vacation? If you have access to Prime Video, Hotel Costiera might be it. Set on Italy’s gorgeous Amalfi Coast, the show follows the staff and guests of a seaside hotel where everyone seems to be hiding a secret (or two). It’s funny and mysterious enough to keep you hooked. The scenery alone is worth watching for— gorgeous views, colorful streets, and plenty of Italian charm.

Don’t have access to Prime, or prefer DVDs? Two series that might hit the same mark are The White Lotus, especially Season 2 – set in Sicily, and Hotel Portofino. The library has both. White Lotus is darker than Hotel Costiera, and Hotel Portofino is a period piece – all are great for a little armchair travel! – Erin Brown

LUX by Rosalía

Inspired by the lives of female saints, purposefully arranged in a four-movement structure, sung in 14 languages, and featuring the London Symphony Orchestra being conducted by Icelandic composer Daníel Bjarnason, the fourth full length album by Latin pop star Rosalía is a wild departure from her previous Latin pop records and yet also feels like an album that only she could have made. Calling to mind influences as wide ranging as opera, Edith Piaf, and Björk (who makes an appearance here), Lux sounds simultaneously familiar and like nothing I’ve ever heard, particularly in the sphere of modern pop music. Overwhelming in the best way and possibly the best album of 2025. – SF

Pluribus

Apple TV has become the unofficial home of ambitious, big-budget sci-fi programming, and so it feels like the perfect home for Pluribus, the latest project from creator Vince Gilligan. Best known for his critical hits Breaking Bad and its spinoff Better Call Saul, Gilligan got his first big break writing for The X-Files, so the genre isn’t anything new to him. This project, about a woman who seems to be the only unhappy person left in the world, looks to strike a very different tone from that series however. Advance praise is almost exclusively glowing, so make sure to add this drama to your watchlist! – SF

Giftful

With the Holiday Season in full swing, you may find yourself being asked by various relatives for a wishlist to help them pick out some gifts. Amazon’s used to be the best, but when they removed the ability to add items from any website it became significantly less useful. There are a variety of competing products, but of those I’ve tried, Giftful has proven my favorite. The presentation is visually appealing and it’s reasonably simple to use, so much so that even the most technically challenged among us should be able to get the swing of it without too much assistance. – SF

Death by Lightning

Netflix is fully capable of producing quality TV, even if most of the time they choose not to. This miniseries about US President James Garfield (Michael Shannon) and his assassin Charles Guiteau (Matthew Macfadyen) appears to be one of their better releases. Critics and viewers are raving about it, and with only 4 episodes you have no excuse to miss it. – SF
